Terms
The agreement between you and jamiio. It is short because the product is infrastructure: your community decides how it runs, and jamiio keeps the record straight.
What jamiio is
Software for running a community — requests, decisions, homes, documents, contributions and the books. A community sets its own rules inside it: what things are called, what needs a vote, how much of a turnout a decision needs, and who may do what.
jamiio does not run your community. It records what your community does. Decisions, money and disputes are yours.
Your account
- You need a working email address, or a Google account. There is no password, so keeping your email secure is what keeps your account secure.
- One account is one person. Sharing it means sharing whatever it can approve, spend or vote for.
- You may belong to several communities, with a different role in each.
Communities
Whoever creates a community administers it and can admit others. A committee can see contact details, decide requests, and settle what is owed before somebody leaves.
Leaving is a request, because a community is entitled to settle what is outstanding first. Three things are guaranteed and are enforced by the software rather than promised here: a request nobody answers is granted when the window passes, a refusal has to name what is outstanding, and nothing can hold you twice.
Money
jamiio keeps a ledger. It does not move money. Payments happen through whatever your community already uses — mobile money, a bank transfer, cash — and jamiio records that they happened. It is not a payment service, not a bank, and holds no funds.
Recording that somebody owes something is bookkeeping. jamiio does not lend, and does not arrange lending. Where a country's law permits credit-like features at all, they are switched off unless that country has been reviewed and the community has chosen them.
A community's books are its own. jamiio takes no share of contributions, dues or anything else recorded in them.
Documents
The document templates are starting points, not legal advice. They cover what most communities need, in plain language, with the parts that differ left blank. Have anything you intend to enforce reviewed by somebody qualified in your country.
What you agree not to do
- Use somebody else's account, or hold a role you were not given.
- Use what you can see about your neighbours for anything other than running the community — no marketing, no selling it on, no building a list.
- Post what is not yours to post, or what is unlawful where you are.
- Attempt to reach records belonging to a community you are not in.
The last one is worth being direct about: the software refuses it, refusals are recorded, and persistent attempts end an account.
Organisations using the API
The API is not public. An organisation applies, is approved onto a plan, and is issued credentials with named scopes and a monthly quota. A credential can do no more than the person who created it, and never more than the plan allows. Credentials expire and can be revoked at any time, including by us where a subscription is unpaid, misused, or believed to be compromised — with the reason given.
Availability
jamiio is provided as it is, without a guarantee that it will always be reachable or free of faults. It runs on infrastructure we do not own, and parts of it depend on services we do not control. Where something breaks, it is recorded and fixed; there is no uptime commitment, and you should not build anything time-critical on the assumption of one.
Nothing here excludes liability for anything that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Your data
What is held and who can see it is set out in the privacy notice, which is part of these terms.
Ending it
You can leave a community, and you can ask for your account to be removed. A community's financial and decision records survive both, because they belong to the community rather than to any one member.
We may suspend an account that is being used to reach records it should not reach, or in a way that puts other members at risk. Where we do, we say why.
Changes
If these change materially, the date above changes and anyone signed in is told before the change takes effect.
